Wow, it has been such a fun
week. Let me try and pull out some highlights!
Tuesday, Elder Bond and I
traveled into the mission office to pick up my NEW TRAINEE! His name is Elder
Kgomo (Ko-mo, g is silent) from Botswana. We are getting along perfectly great
and everything is wonderful! I am really enjoying the thrill of watching him begin his
mission experience as well as watching him adjust to Ghana, this place is a bit
different than what he is used to. Perhaps he is a bit more accustomed to life
on the plains of Botswana, chillen with the Elephants or baboons in his
village. I admire most his rock solid testimony from the spirit despite his
relatively little gospel knowlege. He is a recent convert to the church, joined
"27 june, 2012". A day he remembers so well and tells everyone
about. I love serving with this guy!
I must throw this in here...
remember in LIB where we rode motorbikes through traffic? well, Elder Bond and i
were late getting to the mission office tuesday and we thought it might be
faster to hop on a motorbike to get through the traffic jam. About 1 minute
after getting on the back, an plain clothes police officer stopped us and
wanted to take the motorbike driver into the station for not providing helmets
for two foreigners... then when i was telling the officer it was OK the driver
of the motorbike driver sped off doing a wheelie in attempts to make an escape.
i was a bit shocked and watched the officer chase after the man and eventually
caught him i think, not sure, they were pretty far off ... and my companion and i
thought it best to hop in a cab and get on with our business... we tried to
relive our LIB lives.. oh well!
Coming home tuesday was
miserable! a 1.5 hr drive became 4 hours in a small non air conditioned taxi
without being able to role down the windows else getting soaked by the rain.
Getting home around 7:30pm and it still drizling, i figured it wasn't raining
hard enough not to go out, it was my trainee's FIRST day in the field, we HAD
to go proselyte! haha thats what i thought leaving the apartment (i gave him my
full rainsuit thinking myself a good parent) but when we got to the 3rd lake in
the path so deep we had to take our shoes off and role up our pants i began to
wonder if this proselyting could have waited till wednesday... haha it was nice
though, taught Joe a recent convert!
In other news, Joe (baptized
march) and Richard (also march) recieved the aaronic priesthood yesterday at
church! it was so wonderfl to see them advancing so well. They are so full of
the spirit and have made such great leaps and strides in their lives. Joe was
wearing the new tie i gave him and richard, his new white shirt and tie from my
closet. I was proud of my two brothers!
Life is good. We fasted
yesterday it being the first week of the month and in celebration of Easter. I
love the opportunity to reflect and draw closer to God through fasting and
worship. Easter is such a great holiday! what a great time to celebrate new
life. Till next week!
love,
Elder Fairwell
