Dear Family and Friends!
Life is good here in LIB! the rainy season is coming to a
close and the dry season is upon us! im looking forward to the sun and the
awesome missionary tan that ill get :) the heat that will come with it may not
be preferred, but i'll letcha know how that goes next time.
im still healthy and well, thanks to the goodness
of God. im amazed that im never sick, considering the amount of germs that
surround us. im using my mosquito patches now as the bugs are becoming
plenty these days. being 100% obedient and trusting in the Lord is the best way
to stay healthy on this mission!
We had a wonderful baptism this Saturday. They are a wonderful family of four young adults
with auntie C. at the head. ah, it was so sweet to see them be
baptized! also, two young girls. We had
planned for the service to be at the Brewerville building in the make shift
font in the back. Friday evening we spent time cleaning it and making sure the
water was pumped into it and all, also making sure we would have a generator to
power a tv to show the Joseph Smith restoration film. we had everything planned
to have a wonderful service! we wanted to do our own service with the other
baptisms that were going on in our district so that we wouldnt have to deal with
the large crowd of baptisms that always go on at the Duala Chapel. That baptism
can be crowded and loud,so we planned to
do our own this saturday.
Unfortunately, saturday morning when we arrived at our
chapel, the font was empty. guess there is a leak somewhere (surprise surprise!
welcome to Liberia! haha) so we pumped more water but it was dirty dirty brown.
my companion and i were disappointed that the water was too dirty to do our baptisms
there. thankfully, we were able to save the day and get all of our candidates to
the district center on time for the District Baptism! it was quite the rush
and quite chaotic, but everyone made it. :) it took an entire hour
for everyone to be dunked that saturday alone! so many
people being baptized here! although, not a lot in my area. this
is only my second baptism.
i was reminded this week of the importance of PONDERING
scriptures. Search, PONDER and Pray over the things we study. Ive been trying
to do this a lot more in my studies and let me tell you, its made all the
difference. the Lord has a way of "pouring pure intelligence" into
our minds, as president packer taught, when we ponder the words of the scriptures
and modern prophets. so, take time. haha. earnestly study and then pray, and
apply what we study to our lives. i've also found that memorizing new
scriptures really allows you to obtain much more from it, allowing you to
absorb all you can from a scripture at that moment in time.
life is good :) thanks mom, for your advise on becoming
immersed in the culture. ive really had to remind myself of that this week :)
especially as i took a bite of a "cinnamon roll" with no sugar in it. haha im trying to forget home and my random
cravings for american food :) and learn to love Liberia even more, even as
my own home :)
